SPIEGEL ONLINE publishes a recent survey amongst German youths. They were asked for their dream employer - and did not come back with the high-potential, maximum-career, high-salary options you would expect from a young, unmarried person with the best years ahead.
In fact, young Germans want to be (in that order) policemen / women, working at ZDF (widely acknowledged as the most boring nation-wide - and public - TV channel) and soldiers. What do all these jobs have in common? They are public and offer maximum job security.
How terrible. These girls and guys are not even 20 - and already want to make sure they can just stay where they are. Where are the challenge-seekers? Where are the future global leaders? I think it is clear that based on this research we really need elite schools focusing on those who really want to move things. And by that I don't mean police cars, microphones and tanks.
